NOTES FOR BEGINNERS:
  • Single or empty records are not allowed here. Please delete such a record by pressing the delete tab or mark it for deletion using the template: {{delete|reason}}
  • Clan field - it's the surname in singular if it doesn't change by gender (English or Western European languages, for instance). If the name is in a language, such as Russian or Ukranian, where it depends on sex, put it in the plural (for ex., Petrov/Petrova - Petrovs)
  • Place field must have each administrative unit separated by commas (for ex., London, England, UK)
  • Upload photos via special pages. They could be used in different places
  • If you record was changed check whether it was correction or vandalism. If vandalism - immediately tell us about it.

Hello Shim! How are things? I saw you added the queen Catherine I of Russia. I am not sure but I think there is a record about her in the database because she belongs to the royal lineage of Russia. I would suggest collaborating in this regard. If there is a record, you can add info to it in English also, but there is not need to add her to the database again. Also, Skavronskaya is not actually her lineage as it is, she belongs to the Romanov lineage. Lineage should be added in a person's native language. --Stanley 00:22, 18 January 2007 (EET)

Hi Stanley, I'm ok, you? Thanks for the advice. I didn't know you can be part of a lineage you're not born into. How does that work? And how do I merge two entries? Shim 05:12, 18 January 2007 (EET)
I guess we should write messages either in your talk page or in mine, then it's easier to see what it is all about. :) Well, about Catherine I. I asked Baya, the creator of this site, whether she was in the database. It appeared she was not. So your record is fully valid! :) I saw it somewhere in Rodovid that lineage should be entered in a person's native laguage, in this case, Russian. So the correct lineage name is Скавронские, and it should be entered in plural form. Let me know if something is not clear. And you are right, she does not belong to the Romanov lineage, she belongs to Romanov's House. Maybe we can work together on Romanovs? --Stanley 21:55, 18 January 2007 (EET)

Thanks Stanley. I'd love to work with you on the Romanovs. In fact that was going to be my next project. I don't mind sticking to 1 talk page, but how will you know I've answered? Shim 01:52, 19 January 2007 (EET)

Romanovs will be a big and interesting project. So, I assume we have already started on them. I will be collecting reference information on them as there are a lot of books in Kiev (now spelled Kyiv) on them as some of them lived here too. In order to keep an eye on changes in a page, you just active the "Watch" tool on the top of the page by clicking on it. In this way you will add a particular page to your watchlist, which is seen in the top right corner menu. --Stanley 11:50, 19 January 2007 (EET)
Hi there. I see you are starting the Romanov line. Would you like to discuss a plan? --Stanley 23:24, 19 January 2007 (EET)

Hi Stanley. Yep, I've started. I don't really have much of a plan, do you? If so, please share. Am I doing it right? I copy pasted the russian from wikipedia and from other members of the family. Shim 23:31, 19 January 2007 (EET)

In order to be doing everything correctly, one needs to fully understand the principles of creating trees in Rodovid. I must confess that I do not know everything but I am learning every day. You know what, Baya can explain a lot but in very brief words and I have to ask him for clarifications. What's needed is a nicely written help page. If you already have some suggestions, please, share as they may be useful for arranging the Help pages.

As to Romanovs, as I learned from Baya, people can be entered in any language; however, if you are using the English version of Rodovid, the language must be English. After a record has been added it can be translated into other languages. To do so, one needs to enter the other localization. With the case of Romanovs, the most accurate records about them will be in Russian as they spoke Russian and lived in Russia. By the way, have you seen this tree?

Rodovid has got a powerful feature, which other genealogical resources do not provide, it is color rendering in family trees. However, there are a lot of records added with the lineage fields entered incorrectly. As a result, children of the same father are not displayed as belonging to his lineage. I myself edited the lineages in the Che Guevara's tree. Now you can see that his grandmother was of direct Irish origin. --Stanley 00:02, 20 January 2007 (EET)

That's a huge tree! About the whole clan thing, does this mean I'm not supposed to mix languages? Shim 00:28, 20 January 2007 (EET)

Yep, let's use one language per each localization. This will simplify the use of the site for other visitors. --Stanley 00:41, 20 January 2007 (EET)

Welcome back! Where have you been? I have made some changes to the main page. What do you think? --Stanley 20:06, 24 January 2007 (EET)

Hey, Stanley. How's it going? I get tired of the internet periodically, but I always come back, so here I am. I like the main page, the factoids are cool. What happened to the Santayana quote? I thought it was nice the way it used to be. But other than that, I have no complaints. The main page has definitely been improved. Shim 22:16, 26 January 2007 (EET)

Hello Shim! Baya and I are monitoring all the changes to the Rodovid. So when I see that you and Heiley take time to improve some cool trees, it is always a pleasure. As to the Santayana quote, I dared to remove it from the top of the page because it contains a very negative word 'condemn', which, I think, is not what you what to be in the slogan of this website. I wanted to put something neutral, so I changed the slogan with simple words.
As to the factoids, as you call them, you can always add them there as well. It will be nice for them to be expanded so that visitors to the website could learn some interesting facts. (For example, the Wikipedia page on Che Guevara says that both of his parents were of Basque origin but you cannot not see it from his family tree. What is clear from his tree is that his grandmother was of direct Irish descent.)
There will be even more changed coming. We are waiting for the brand-new engine to be finished. And then we will be changing the design of internal pages also. --Stanley 12:44, 27 January 2007 (EET)

Hi Shim! A long time have not seen you here. How are things? I have started on the Tagore family. Would you like to join? --Stanley 21:30, 11 February 2007 (EET)
