Killed by the Tories - "Hampton Massacre" near Greer, Spartanburg, SC
The morning of 30 June 1776 when the Cherokees and Tories arrived at the Hampton house, Elizabeth (Hampton) Harrison was visiting her parents while her husband was away recruiting militia... When the Indian s appe ared at the Hamilton house, Preston (her brother) saw a friendly chief in the party and went outside to greet him. His father followed him into the yard... "Old Mr. Hampton gave the Chief a cordial welcome and handclasp, but almost immediately Preston was shot down by a Tory, and the hand Anthony had held sent a tomahawk through his skull." Mrs. Hampton appeared and was killed in like manner... Anthony, Elizabeth, Preston, and the Harrison (Elizabeth's infant) baby were killed...
