Nellie was born on July 22nd, 1932 in Evarts, Alberta. She was raised on the family farm in the Evergreen district. She was the eldest of seven siblings. As a young girl Nellie worked for a time at the Evergreen store, later moving to Calgary where she met her husband, James. They then purchased their farm east of Eckville where they raised their family of one son and three daughters. Nellie also owned and operated Eckville Family Fashions. They retired to Red Deer in 2005.
