She was the tenth child of merchant Peter and Anna Cathrine Rosenberg (1699–1747), and the sister of author Ditlevine Collett and landowner Peter Collett; in all, there were eleven siblings. Her father died before she was three and her mother when she was ten.
On May 6, 1758, she married Morten Leuch. This was one of many marriages between the Collett and Leuch families.
