Monroe Was 18 years old when he went into service in Civil War. Was in 14 regiment. Calvery. S. M. Vols. Rank Private. Co. D under Capt Flagg. Enlisted 4-7-1862 at Springfield Mo From 10-31-1862 he transferred to 4th Regiment. Calvery. M.S.M. 2-4-1863. mustered out 4-7-1865 at Warrensburg Mo.
Monroe gave from his homestead the land on which the Amity Church was built, enough was included for a burial ground.
