NOTES FOR BEGINNERS:
  • Single or empty records are not allowed here. Please delete such a record by pressing the delete tab or mark it for deletion using the template: {{delete|reason}}
  • Clan field - it's the surname in singular if it doesn't change by gender (English or Western European languages, for instance). If the name is in a language, such as Russian or Ukranian, where it depends on sex, put it in the plural (for ex., Petrov/Petrova - Petrovs)

  • Upload photos via special pages. They could be used in different places
  • If you record was changed check whether it was correction or vandalism. If vandalism - immediately tell us about it.

[edit] Lancasters

Hi, I have put a temporary hold on some of the records that you are changing due to some reference updates that need to be entered. I didn't expect anyone to be working on this line so far. I have some records from English research (Stirnet) and some land records from the Leonard Warner papers. Leonard was a genealogist who spent a lot of time abroad combing the archives for tidbits of information which he compiled into a huge volume of charts that I inherited prior to his death. These were painstakingly compiled over the course of his lifetime (nearly 70 years of research) so whenever I encounter changes to some of the lineages I like to just slow things down a bit and get a dialogue going. If you are a Facebook user you can contact me through the Rodovid Page. Almoustine 21:10, 22 April 2010 (EEST)

OK, that's fine. I noticed that and I started some discussions here and here. I have been mostly working off of this Stirnet page. Other than that, most of the changes I was making was just minor tweaks, like standardizing the naming ("William Lancaster (Kendall)" -> "William de Lancaster, Lord of Kendal") and so on. Stirnet is awesome isn't it. It is actually one of my favorite source sites. I think I am done with the Lancaster tweaks for now. You took me a bit by surprise having gotten back that far so soon. Other than me, I don't think there was anyone else working that line until you started. I just want you to know that I appreciate your input :) Almoustine 23:50, 22 April 2010 (EEST)

Much of what I have entered came from the Warner Papers that are housed in the Descent from Antiquity archive library. I did not enter this as a source as I entered names in the Rodovid Database. That proved to be a bit mistake later as I am now having to revisit my entries and enter the Volume and Record numbers. So, as we put in details for these persons from Stirnet be sure to enter the source. It may not seem important now but It will be in the future. I have been standardizing the Stirnet Sources as (STIRNET:Lineage-?) Check the Churchill family to see what this looks like. Almoustine 17:32, 29 April 2010 (EEST)

[edit] Updating Records

Hi Phil. Hey... about your recent changes to William the Conqueror... don't introduce changes that are less ambiguous. I noticed you changed his birth date. It should be 14th of October 1025. You changed it from something more ambiguous (about 1027), and changed his name to the Bastard from the Conqueror. Lets leave it as the Conqueror since that is what the majority of the English speaking world know him as and this is the English version of the Rodovid Database. The same is true when you changed King of England to Roi d'Angleterre...(Lets leave that as King of England). I am reverting the record to restore these changes. Feel free to add any additional children...(Most of his children are not yet connected to the database, or to the family). Cheers Almoustine 16:55, 11 May 2010 (EEST)

That is really weird...the only change that I made was adding The Bastard. I don't know why the rest of those things showed up in the diff, because I didn't touch any field besides "Other last names". Everything that it said I changed was there before I clicked edit - I distinctly remember noticing the image, which it claims I added, before I made my change. Is this some sort of database error, or what? crabGoblin (talk) 17:13, 11 May 2010 (EEST)
Hmmm that is odd. Lets watch and see if there are any other instances of such things. I may need to report them to Baya. Almoustine 18:32, 11 May 2010 (EEST)
Since the text for both parents and children are included in the code on each record, I have seen before that when you add parents to a child's record, the child will show up as being added to the parent's record in its next edit, whoever happens to make the change afterward. So that explains the addition of a child in my edit, but not of everything else. crabGoblin (talk) 18:48, 11 May 2010 (EEST)
