NOTES FOR BEGINNERS:
  • Single or empty records are not allowed here. Please delete such a record by pressing the delete tab or mark it for deletion using the template: {{delete|reason}}
  • Clan field - it's the surname in singular if it doesn't change by gender (English or Western European languages, for instance). If the name is in a language, such as Russian or Ukranian, where it depends on sex, put it in the plural (for ex., Petrov/Petrova - Petrovs)
  • Place field must have each administrative unit separated by commas (for ex., London, England, UK)
  • Upload photos via special pages. They could be used in different places
  • If you record was changed check whether it was correction or vandalism. If vandalism - immediately tell us about it.

[edit] Current Suggestions for Rodovid

[edit] Privacy

When editing a person there should be a check mark labeled "Living" which is not checked by default. If it gets checked then most of the options should become disabled. If the page is saved then a warning should pop up stating that the information about that person and his/her history will be deleted. The system should not allow records with birth dates more than 130 years ago to be marked as living. The only fields that should be enabled for a living person are lineage, last name at birth, other last names, father, mother and child. Although some people will not like this change, it will make the site much safer from lawsuits, predators and identity thieves. It will also allow the site to be much more scalable because it will require less manual administration.

  • currently I have some additional privacy options, but they will be available later. --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)
  • I just entered my ideas on the privacy discussion page about how how Rodovid's privacy should be implemented. I think that this topic is of extreme importance and the future of Rodovid depends on it being implemented correctly.

[edit] Display of LDS Proxy Ordinances

During registration there should be an unmarked check box entitled 'Display LDS Proxy Ordinances.' There should be a question mark that displays the following text. "Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint perform ordinances such as baptism for people who have died with the belief that the ordinance will become effective only when and if that person accepts the ordinance in the after life. Mark this check box if you want these proxy ordinances to be displayed." This preference should be able to be set in the preferences page. LDS ordinances that are dated after the death date or more than 120 years after the birth date should be hidden from anonymous users and from registered users that don't have the 'Display LDS Proxy Ordinances' preference checked.

  • Please, add request for this feature to [1]. --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

[edit] LDS Sealing to Parents

LDS Sealing to Parents should be added to an individual record in the following way. This is an excerpt taken from a PAF GEDCOM export which has been shortened to only show the relevant information. The marriage could be created with or without the marriage tag.

0 @I3@ INDI
 1 NAME ChildOne //
  2 GIVN ChildOne

  • this is a GEDCOM LDSC event (sealing child lds). It is presented into person event types list. Links to fams and temple are not coded yet. --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

[edit] LDS Temple

All LDS ordinances should have a drop down option for which Temple it was performed in. The drop down should offer these temple codes. The drop down should show the full names, but the codes should be saved to the wiki database.

LDS Baptism and LDS Confirmation should offer a Place and Temple option. The rest of the LDS ordinances should not offer Place options, but they should offer Temple options. All of them should have the usual date, comments and source options.

  • Please, add request for this feature to [2]. --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

[edit] Gedcom Export and Merge

Create a GEDCOM export utility.

  • I spend my time for this feature too. --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

11. Create a merge utility.

  • in process --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

[edit] LDS Sealing to Spouse

'*** IMPORTANT *** Please fix this first because it is getting set incorrectly right now. I can't add this attribute to my family members until it is fixed.' LDS Sealing to Spouse should be added to a family record in the following way. This is an excerpt taken from a PAF GEDCOM export which has been shortened to only show the relevant information. The marriage could be created with or without the marriage tag.

  • Thank you so much. --Alexeagar 23:01, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

[edit] LDS Ordinances

The LDS Ordinances that should be available should be titled 'baptism lds' 'confirmation lds' 'endowment lds' and 'sealing to parents lds'.

  • changed. But 'sealing to parents lds' is presented as 'sealing child lds' --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)
  • I know that the GEDCOM tag suggests that 'sealing child lds' is better, but it is not. It will confuse LDS members. We speak of a child being sealed to his parents. I have never heard the words 'sealing child' in this context and it confused me the first time I read it. PAF, the church's offically supported genealogy program labels this field as 'Sealing to Parents'. --Alexeagar 23:01, 23 April 2007 (EEST)
CHANGED --Baya 23:28, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

[edit] Family event codes

Codes should not be listed for marriage options. The names of the codes should be listed and then the codes should be saved in the database. The names for codes can be seen here. However, Marriage should not be abbreviated as Marr. Because there is a big difference between not knowing whether two people where married, and knowing that they were not married, there should be an option to create a family with two parents who were not married. My suggestion is that it would look like the following.

0 @F1@ FAM
 1 _UID 0AA0B74F335EF44B86DB319AC3CB052B6A95
 1 HUSB @I1@
 1 WIFE @I2@
 1 CHIL @I3@
 1 CHIL @I4@
 1 MARR
  2 STAT Not Married
  • names are listed now. New version of rodovid engine automatically show "secondary" parents in tree even if they have not common family, imho, marriage without marriage not needed. In any case you can use event EVEN (other). --Baya 22:36, 23 April 2007 (EEST)

[edit] Watch Page Default

When a new page is created the 'watch this page' check box should be checked. When a page is being edited the check box should be unchecked by default.

  • Currently real db of rodovid powered by mediawiki 1.5.8. New version of rodovid powered by mediawiki 1.9.2 that keep same feature. --Baya 22:05, 23 April 2007 (EEST)
  • What do you mean by "that keep same feature"? Do you mean that the new version will work the same as now or will it work the way that I suggest? --Alexeagar 22:32, 23 April 2007 (EEST)
  • You suugestion already implemented in new version. You can test all features of new version except gedcon import here. --Baya 22:38, 23 April 2007 (EEST)
