John Crill is shown in the 1840 Ohio census in Clark County, Ohio. He is shown in the 1850 census in Koscuisko County, Indiana, next doo r to William and Catherine, age 32, a farmer born in Virginia, with Ma ry, 31, born in Maryland, Barbara E., 11, born in Ohio, and Martin, 4 , Julia Ann, 3, Giles, 1, and Jacob, three months, all born in Indiana . This John Crill was shown in the Civil War pension record index a s having served in the 130 Indiana Infantry, Company E. Mary A. Cril l is shown as his widow. He received his pension on November 10, 1883 . She was granted a widow?s pension on March 4, 1899. Both pension s were granted in Indiana. His obituary, from the North Manchester (IN) Journal on February 23, 1 889, said, "John Crill was born in Virginia, January 29, 1817. Died F ebruary 16, 1889, aged 82 years. When four years of age he came to Oh io with his parents. In 1839 he was united in marriage to Mary A. Tri dle. To this union fourteen children were born, ten of whom have gon e to the spirit world. The others, with the exception of John W. Cril l of Independence, Arkansas were present at their father's bedside. O n December 28, 1863, Brother Crill enlisted in Company E, 130 Regimen t Indiana Volunteers as teamster. He served as such about six months . He then joined his company. He was in the battles of Lost Mountain , Pine Mountain, Kenesaw Mountain, in front of Atlanta, at Jonesboro , and in the siege of Atlanta. He was with his command on a forced ma rch after Hood from Atlanta to Nashville. He was at one time cut of f from the main army and reported lost, but he arrived in Nashville i n time for the battle at that place. He received his discharge July 1 0, 1865. When Mr. Crill first came to Indiana, about fifty years ago , he united with the United Brethren Church, of which he was a faithfu l member."
