Egyptian Mythology refers to the body of literature that was created surrounding the earliest dynasties of the Pharaohs. It also includes any references to stories of Antecedents of these Pharaohs. While Egyptian mythology can be problematic especially in reference to the earliest Gods/Pharaohs it never the less remains the best preserved system of mythology of any in the Levantine region. In the corpus of collected mythology there are references to early systems of worship and an earlier pantheon of Gods which were incorporeal in nature (Much as the Greek systems). The traditional Egyptian pantheon was centered around the earliest Dynasty of Kings (Referred to as Dynasty 0) which included the Scorpion King (Osirus) and Iry-Hor (Horus). While both of these early Pharaohs are documented in the Egyptian archaological records, Horus (Iry-Hor) is the earliest known documented human to be identified through contemporary record of the neighboring Greeks as well. If linguistic allowance is extended to accept the possibility that these Kings may also have been known by localized names, then it is possible to identify them in the earliest Sumerian literature as well.
