[edit] Place names

Hello!

You've noticed that we're working hard in rodovid.en about place names. I hope I did not make a problem for you.

I've corrected this record you made:

Could you tell me if it is correct this way?

The rule about writing place names is slightly changing in Rodovid.

To write a place name:

  1. copy it in Wikipedia
  2. paste it in Rodovid
  3. if you find a comma in the wikipedia name, erase it, and put what is after the comma between braces

Thank you! --Christophe Tesson - talk. 10:29, 11 November 2015 (EET)

hello

the corrections are ok.

Hilsen Jørgen Erik.

[edit] Language

Hello Erik

Happy new year!

I'm terriby embarrassed! Your work in Rodovid.EN seems very serious and sourced, but it creates serious troubles with Rodovid Engine!

  1. You're writing in danish, why not, but you write in Rodovid.EN(glish)
  2. Do you know it's possible for you, if you want, to create a dannish localization of Rodovid? This would be a great step for the Rodovid community! This would be much more easy for you to work!
  3. it seems you're not writing only place names in "Place" field of each event. Is it the case?
  4. your notations seems very mysterious (why all these "x" and all these numbers?) In fact, I can't understand a word of what you wrote.
  5. We can't create any "Place:" page for you : your records always mention places that we can't find in Wikipedia (english or danish) or even in Google maps. It seems quite misterious.

Could you help us to help you? --Christophe Tesson - talk. 14:50, 2 January 2016 (EET)

[edit] First question

  • Where is : "Højrup" ? Is it "Højrup Kirke, Gram" ?

(According to you it's a place name)

Hello Christophe

Happy new year

Thankyou - nice words. I am impressed that you spend the time to read my writings.

I would like to create a danish localization of Rodovid, but I am not that good at understanding rules in english, so I probably need some guidence. The place names I have written are names of small local places mentioned in church books etc. But I can describe each name with co-ordinates , so you can find them on maps. I started writing "x" by my direct ancestors (I was not aware that someone would controle me), but I think they are remowed by now.

Højrup: 55.192n,10.35e. Højrup is a small town on Funen, the nearest churc is in Hillerslev , a small town in Sallinge district,Svendborg county.

►►► Hello Erik

(Hey, I have a nephew called Erik with a "k" which is not common in french!)

Thanks for your answer!

  1. I'm not controlling anybody, just worying about good health of Rodovid. I think this site is a good idea and is really well built. But needs efforts from users!
  2. Rules in english are not very well written, it's not a big problem. The big thing is that Rodovid is "multi-player" so everybody needs "good" place-names (known places, no ambiguity, only one spelling for each localization)
  3. I won't have enough time to help you in creating a danish localization of Rodovid, but I think basicly, it's just a 3 or 4 pages of translation (from english). There are two person who could help you:
    • Baya, who's the creator of Rodovid. Really nice guy, he's ukrainian and you can talk and ask questions to him in english. Talk to him here : engine:User talk:Baya
    • OldLion, he is french and has created several localizations of Rodovid, speaking english. You can talk to him here : fr:Discussion Utilisateur:OldLion
  4. I've found Højrup! My opinion is : because this is a very little hamlet, you should write :
    • Højrup, Hillerslev with only one comma, if Højrup is not a part of Hillerslev. This will create two links to two "Place:" pages. No final dot ! - or
    • Højrup (Hillerslev) if Højrup is a part of Hillerslev, this will create only one link to only one "Place:" page. (this is the convention in Rodovid.FR(ench)

Don't hesitate to ask any question ! --Christophe Tesson - talk. 14:45, 8 January 2016 (EET)

PS: I added some improvements to your Højrup "Place:" page.

[edit] Second question

What is the difference between:

  • Freltofte
  • Freltofte Bye

???

[edit] Translation

Hello Christophe.

I am greatefull that you ara corecting me!

Højrup and Hlllerslev are small villages, Højrup once had a train-station, but Højrup belongs to Hillerslev parish, and only Hillerslev has a church.

Great improvement of the Højrup "Place" page!

Freltofte Bye (Bye=Town) is an old name for Freltofte, found in churchbooks, so in future I will use Freltofte only.

I will think about contacting the mentioned persons!

Regards Jørgen Erik 8-1-16

[edit] Third question

What does these words mean :

  • et hus
  • Et Boelsted
  • et Huus
  • et Boel
  • En Gaard

You wrote them as Place names. I guess it's something else…

[edit] Third answer

Words used in cencus papers:

et hus = a house. Et Boelsted = a habitation. et Huus = a house. et Boel = a habitation. En Gaard = a farm.

— I do understand. I will now translate these informations (while I hunt "red-links" in Rodovid.EN).

Your work is really well sourced ! --Christophe Tesson - talk. 18:01, 8 January 2016 (EET)

Thanks!
