Rahab was an innkeeper who according to some scholarsRef needed ! married Salmon the ancestor of King David. Her actions during the time of Joshua favored the Haburites in their seige of JericoRef needed !. However scholarsRef needed ! are split with regard to whether this is the same Rahab who married Joshua Bin Nun. Some believe it is while others do not. The evidences are not clear. The only ramifications of separating them are the impact upon the genealogy charts of her descendants. Many House of David puristsRef needed ! argue against Rahab of Jerico due to the later cultural interpretations which equated a female innkeeper with the madame of a bordello based on the thin argument of her use of a scarlet thread as a signaling device. Their belief is that a prostitute would never have been allowed by God to be included in the genealogy of Christ; however it is to be noted that many reformed sinners appear in the genealogy of Christ. There is no support for any such assumption in any of the sources in which she is mentioned. Indeed she may have been a simple proprietress of the ancient equivalent of a bed and breakfast establishment.

Since Rahab's ancestry is not known, her occupational status makes no difference in the antecedents on this chart, if however Rahab is a composite heroine (a legendary person comprised of the life history of more than one individual) it is possible that Rahab the wife of Joshua lived centuries earlier in Jerico, while Rahab the ancestress of David (wife of Salman) lived later. What is certain is that the generations between David and the Exodus from Egypt are notoriously compacted it is quite possible that several generations are missing in the ancestral chart of King David.

It is to be noted that Boaz was a relation to Hadedezer bar Rahob in the region of Jerico, and that many new additions to the Confederation were identified as the sons of their mothers if their fathers were not original members of the Confederation or if the father was not known.

Another note of interest is the location of the alleged Battle of Jerico. Archaeology has confirmed that the city of Jerico was abandoned at the time that the alleged battle took place (1400 BCE). Evidence of a battle did occur but it was centuries earlier than given by biblical scholars (1562 BCE).
