Il fut le troisième fils d'Abousahl-Hamazasp.
972, les domaines paternels furent partagés, il fut prince de Rštunik, tandis que son frère aîné Achot-Sahak devint roi et conserva l'autorité sur ses cadets.
1002, l'empereur Basile II exigea l'allégeance et il ne put refuser.
1003, il succéda à son frère Gourgen-Khatchik en écartant ses neveux du trône.
1021, il céda son royaume à l'empereur Basile II en échange du thème de Sébastée (province).
