Samuel, along with Capts. Moore and Peery, was at the battle of the Alamance, 16 May 1771, (David E. Johnson, "New River Settlements"). The battle was part of the French and Indian Wars. around 1772 Samuel moved to Bluestone Country, which was located in what was successively Fincastle, Montgomery, Wythe and Tazewell Counties. then around 1804 he moved to Wayne County. Samuel swore allegiance to the United States on 30 December 1777 from Montgomery County, and served in the Revolutionary War, and was at the Battle of King's Mountain, South Carolina, 7 October 1780.
