Notes

He was born and grew up in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain. He participated in the Spanish civil war on the Republican side, as an airplane pilot. After the war, he spent some time in a refugee camp (also called concentration camp at the time, internment camp nowadays, due to the extremely negative connonation of this name after WWII (see for instance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concentration_camps_in_France, http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_d%27internement_fran%C3%A7ais). One of his brothers, Alfonso, remained in France after WWII and went back to Spain when this became possible, his sister left for Peru with her husband). He then left for Mexico on a refugee ship with other Spanish refugees, from Bordeaux. He has remained principally in Mexico after this, although he always bore nostalgia from his native Pamplona and returned there often in the summer with his wife Paquita Delgado after retirement.
