Notes

John Thomas Mustain accompanied his Aunt, Ann Chastaing Moustine, and Step Uncle, Joseph William Taine, from Europe to Barbados in 1695. Young Thomas had been attending attending school in England. The records indicate that he was Thomas Mustain son of Francis, but did not complete his studies.

Ann Chastaing was the widow of his uncle Thomas Moustine late of Virgina and Maryland. Ann remarried to Joseph William Taine of Barbados who was born in Jabrun France but maintained landholdings in the Caribbean. Both Joseph and Anne were of French Huguenot stock who Anglicised their names and joined/participated in the Anglican congregation of St Michaels Barbados.

Relatives of Ann, Joseph and Thomas also lived on the island and records of their families are available in the St John's parish records, Barbados.

Anne's brother Pierre Chastaing, a surgeon, emigrated to the Carolinas and Virginia.
