Coat of arms King Arthur
The king Arthur that has been popularized in popular literature is an amalgamation of various individuals with the same name who lived in different times. His story is based mainly upon sources authored centuries after his supposed reign. Please use caution when connecting him to known historical persons.
Differentiating between the Arthurs
"King Arthur" is not to be confused with Athrwys ap Meurig ? who lived later, or with Lucius Artorius Castus (b. about 120) who lived earlier
According to Roman custom, Athrwys ap Meurig ? married his paternal half sister. thus stories of an incestuous relationship between "King Arthur" and Morgan le Faye are erroneous and belong to a different set of individuals 2 centuries later, but were added later by Mallory and others as a result of confusion between the names of these two kings.
In the stories of King Arthur there is mention of Sir Hector who is Arthur's foster father. This story is anachronistic to Arthur the son of Uther. Caius Ectorius ? (Kex Ector) and his son Caius Commius ? (Cynry) were real but lived centuries earlier.
