Benjamin is given the following sons:
- Belah (meaning swallow), in reference to Joseph disappearing (being swallowed up)
- Becher (meaning first born), in reference to Joseph being the first child of Rachel
- Ashbel (meaning capture), in reference to Joseph having suffered captivity
- Gera (meaning grain), in reference to Joseph living in a foreign land (Egypt)
- Naaman (meaning grace), in reference to Joseph having graceful speech
- Ehi (meaning my brother), in reference to Joseph being Benjamin's only full-brother (as opposed to half-brothers)
- Rosh (meaning elder), in reference to Joseph being older than Benjamin
- Muppim (meaning double mouth), in reference to Joseph passing on what he had been taught by Jacob
- Huppim (meaning marriage canopies), in reference to Joseph being married in Egypt, while Benjamin was not there
- Ard (meaning wanderer/fugitive), in reference to Joseph being like a rose
The Targum Sheni gives his genealogy to Mordecai, as follows: Mordecai, son of Ya'ir, son of Shim'i, son of Shmida, son of Baana, son of Eila, son of Micah, son of Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan, son of Saul, son of Kish, son of Aviel, son of Tzror, son of Bechorath, son of Aphiah, son of Sh'charim, son of Uziah, son of Sheshak, son of Michael, son of Elyael, son of Amihud, son of Shephatya, son of Psuel, son of Pison, son of Malikh, son of Jerubaal, son of Yerucham, son of Chananya, son of Zavdi, son of Elpo'al, son of Shimri, son of Zecharya, son of Merimoth, son of Hushim, son of Sh'chora, son of 'Azza, son of Gera, son of Benjamin, son of Jacob the firstborn, whose name is called Israel.
The years between Benjamin and Saul are too short as are the years between Saul and Mordecai... indicating a contraction in the genealogy with "descendants" being named as sons, and some generations left out altogether.

Самое простое объяснение этих разностей состоит в предположении, что писатели данных трех лиц говорят о разных лицах: Моисей — о ближайших потомках Вениамина, а автор Паралипоменон о дальнейших, бывших представителями своих родов во время народной переписи при Давиде. Но, кроме подобного способа примирения генеалогий, существуют и другие. Именно, полагают, что Иедиаил данного стиха есть или искаженное Ашбел трех остальных списков или же синонимическое с ним имя. При допущении подобного предположения рассматриваемый стих перечисляет трех известных из кн. Бытия сыновей Вениамина: Белу, Бехера и Ашбела. Бехер опущен в кн. Числ и 1 Пар VIII:1 (в последней главе он упомянут в 8–9 ст.) потому, что при Моисее не имел еще значительного потомства, оно появилось в век Давида — Соломона. Нааман и Ард не значатся в трех генеалогиях, кроме Бытия, на том основании, что, по указанию Чис XXXVI:40, они были его внуками, — детьми от его сына Белы, Гера и Рош (Быт XLVI) опущены в других генеалогиях ввиду их бездетности. Ехи (Быт), Ахирам (Чис) и Ахрай (1 Пар VIII) различные по произношению имена одного и того же лица Муппим (Быт) — Шефуфам (Чис) и Xуппим (Быт) — Xуфам (Чис).
