Notes
Sorry I took so long to reply--old age or something.
I dug out my photocopies from when we were in Co. Carlow, and this is what I found:
Richard Watchorn married Jane Agar in Fenagh Parish of County Carlow April 16, 1849. Jane was from Ballyhammmm(can't read it well) of Fenagh Parish and Richard was from something like Tughorne of something like Tellewerean Parish. The names of the Parishes are very difficult to read. Richard and Jane had Richard in 1-3-1850, John 1-13-1853, Maria 12-13-1855, William Henry 5-26-1856, Richard (again--maybe first one died?) 6-15-1857, Mary Ann 2-26-1859, Eliza Anne 10-30-1860, Abraham 6-19-1862, and Eliza Anne (again--???) 10-30-1865. Richard and Jane's abode was something like Ballogh-Aderneen, whatever that means.
Richard (my grandfather) married Jane Hawkins of Kilkenny in America and their children were born here. He brought Jane over after he had settled here--or so I think the story goes.
Other Watchorns on the church records at Fenagh show this:
Henrietta Watchorn married John McDaniel on 5-21-1822 Richard Watchorn married Sarah someone. Children were: Mary Elizabeth 12-4-1886, Sarah Jane 10-23-1887 Norman Lellie married Norine Elizabeth Watchorn and children were: Valerie Elizabeth 2-15-1977 Robert Watchorn married Mary Krokinny (spelled wrong I'm sure) 1820 Rebecca Watchhorn married Henry Hutten 10-10-1813 Mary Watchhorn married James Condel or Condell 4-24-1825 William Watchorn married Ann Sunderland 5-5-1822 Jane Watchorn married Thomas Codd 4-9-1833
Many times Watchorn was spelled Watchhorn. Different families?? Please don't take the spellings of these names or even the dates for absolute truth as it was difficult to make out a lot of the words and dates.
I wish I were with you in your travels to County Carlow and County Kilkenny as I'd love to find out more about Jane Hawkins. Jane and Richard had Richard (Harry), Robert (Sam), Arthur, George and Abraham (who died when he was a baby). Arthur was my father. We lived near Leigh, Nebraska.
Maybe the Condel in my list is the connection, but I don't know how they are connected with the Richard line. Wonder if there's a way to read old newpapers from County Carlow online?? Or does someone know more about this Watchorn group? The church of Fenagh still stands but the stones in the cemetary are so badly kept up you can't read them at all. Fenagh Parish is near Carlow but what direction I have no idea as I was all mixed up over there.
