Notes

Born in Hungary, joined the Nationalist party. After the failure of the 1848 revolution in Hungary, fled to England and engaged in business. He acquired a considerable fortune but in 1878 lost it. Loewe was interested in the Theist movement and helped to establish its church. He was an admirer of British culture and imbued his children with a love of English literature.
