As Representatives of the Huguenot Protestant faith Coligny applied to Calvin At Calvin's requesting the Genevan Church took up the matter. Pierre Richer and Guillaume Chartier were appointed. Richer had been a Carmelite monk and was a doctor of theology, Chartier was a gentleman of Vitre. Along with 290 others they set sail from Honfleur on 19 November 1556 in a little squadron of three ships under the command of a nephew of Villegagnon and arrived at their destination in Canada on 7 March 1557.
