Subject: Re: Sweet Date: Wed, 31 May 2000 21:27:58 EDT From: Ewsweet@aol.com To: skncr@cts.com CC: mdionne@mediaone.net, RSweet4617@aol.com, Bobtny@aol.com Shirley, Thank you so much for the documents! They arrived yesterday. Well, you should know you are definitely My Cousin. Your Ruth Ann is the daughter of my Great Uncle John Sweet. If you look at the census pages you will find Nelson Sweet and his wife Margaret (Nesbit) and some of their children. My Grandfather, Wallace Sweet was their youngest and not born yet in 1860. By the way, his father Nelson used his middle name, his real name was Joseph Nelson Sweet. I have a lot more data about their families and their ancestors that I will try and get together for you. John and Nelson's father was Benjamin Sweet and his father was Sylvester Sweet Jr., Berlin, NY but born in RI.
Again-Thank you so much. I have found some other cousins descending from Benjamin's brother Luther Sweet who have contacted me. I am copying some of them with this email. Regards-Cousin Erick

Sylvester Jr. b 10/19/1762 , N Kingston , RI , d Petersburg , NY 12/14/1803 This is a pretty close match to Sylvester Sweet who was born in East Greenwich (not North Kingstown) on October 7 of that year, the son of Sylvester and Mary (Johnson) Sweet. The will of Sylvester Sr, written in 1804, mentioned grandson Luther Sweet as son of Sylvester Sweet deceased Luther b 4/3/1783 ; Benjamin b 1785 ; Polly b 10/21/1787 ;Wanton (my line) b 10/6/1789 Betsey b 8/4/1793 ; Sally b 5/7/1793 ;Phebe b 11/16/1795; Tabitha b 11/16/1797 Harry b 11/27/1798 all in RI.; Lydia b 7/30/1802 in NY. Betsey is shown above with birth date three months after Sally's. I deduce that her birth year is wrong and probably should be 1791. The family moved to Petersburg , NY in 1799 via the Mohawk Trail. Three boys reached maturity. Note that the 1800 census shows Sylvester Sweet Jr still in East Greenwich. The tally has one adult male 26-45, one male 16-26, two boys 10-16, one adult female 26-45, one girl 10-16, and two girls under 10. This is a good match to the list of children shown above, assuming Harry died as a baby, as well as two of the four girls born in the 1790's. John Chandler
