Notes
Genesis 10:6 And sons of Ham 'are' Cush, and Mitzraim, and Phut, and Canaan. ( YLT). Genesis 10:13 And Mitzraim hath begotten the Ludim, and the Anamim,
Unlike the other sons of Ham, the name Mitzraim is not a personal name, but rather a plural name meaning "They of the Tight Places" and is thought by some to be an attempt by ancient Hebrews to assign a lineage to a group of people who are otherwise not identified. The same is true of the sons of Mitzraim. It is possible that these lineages are named for their former inhabitants rather than for the name of the projenitor as is common in most Semitic colonies. That these lineages were anciently assigned to Ham who settled in the region of Africa is significant in that modern genetics have shown this to have be the birthplace of all common DNA. Just a note. There is now a speculation that there may in fact be a second strain of DNA that originated in Asia that is not common to Africa, but found as a late-comer or reintroduced to certain lineages of North Western Africa after it had died out throughout the African Subcontinent.
Indeed my research shows several lineage classified as Mitzraim who are from different origins than Ham. As is the same with many of the sons and Grandsons of Noah, when a daughter of one lineage married a son of another, their posterity was initially listed as the descendant of the former (The Father's lineage) without being removed by the Hebrews from the lineage of the former (Mother's lineage). This has led to plenty of confusion with regard to which lineage is which and exactly which descendant of Noah was responsible for the settlement of which area.
With respect to Genesis, I have decided to remove the lineage of the Mitzraim out of the lineage of Noah and will reassign the sons of Mitzraim to the proper parent lineage as they become defined. Some lineages are maternal, others are Paternal I will attempt to put this in some sort of order and will note on the individual record when a person belongs to both lineages.
Just as note to those who believe that all people were destroyed during the flood. This is simply not the case. The bible is a record of a given people and their descendants who after a devastating event resettled in a confined area that was not originally their homeland (The Levant) and from thence spread out over the earth. Just as some of the children of Noah survived outside the Ark, there are likely to be other survivors in various places who have left their own records and had their own prophets. This is called Divine Mercy and we should in no way be surprised that this would be the case. Therefore, on this website you will see lineages that originate outside of the lineage of Noah and which will intermarry into the lineage of Noah and vice versa.
