Mehmed II became Sultan on the death of his father (1441). He was 2 years and had been highly educated. He spoke Arabic, Greek, Latin, and Slavonic. He was not of pure Turkish blood. His mother was an Albanian slave girl. He was raised by his stepmother, the Sultana Mara Brankovich who was Serbian.
