The Volsung surname is an old Nordic variation of the Saxon tribal identification of Walha. My research indicates that this people were located in a portion of Northern France near the border of Belgium and may have given rise to the continental ethnic groups Walloon and/or Walenses. This lineage often becomes confused with Saxony proper. My research shows that in the region of Waldens in the Italian Piedmont there is a township or region of Saxe Minor.
