The Lineage of Nannau is one of the oldest documented lineages in Europe. The first known mention of Nannau is the lady Ninnaue. Ninnaue was the wife or concubine (alternately claimed by some to have been a hierodule at a local shrine) who concieved a child by Elistus (Aella) Aurelianus Merlinus the illigitmate son of Ambrosius Aurelianus (ap Cunedda) and Asloeg (Esla) vch Gewis. He was awknowledged later as the son but also adopted by Marcianus Gallus (Gorlois) the second husband of Esla. From there the lineage may be traced through the male line to Rhodri Mawr. Then from Cadel ap Rhodri to Angharad verch Maredydd to her son Bleddyn ap Llewellyn (Bleddyn Lord Argyllwyd was the younger brother of Gruffydd ap Llywelyn).
