Lineage:Bulgari
The comital family of Bulgari (Greek: Βούλγαρις) was one of the first inscribed in the Livre D'Or of the Corfiote nobility. On May 10, 1689, they received, by virtue of letters patent from Silvestro Valerio, the Doge of Venice, the title of Count. In that decree, the following is said: Singolari e distinti sono i meriti della famiglia Bulgari, nobile di Corfù, non solo per la replicate testimonianze di valore e fedeltà date dai suoi maggiori nelle guerre di Candia e nell'acquisto della Morea, ma ben anco nell'assedio di Corfù, nella quale occasione si segnalarono col coraggio e coll'esempio onde riparare le fortificazioni e difendere quella Piazza dell'invasione nemica. (Unique and distinct are the merits of the Bulgari family, noble of Corfu, not only for the replete evidence of value and loyalty given by its acquittal in the wars of Candia and in the purchase of the Morea, but likewise in the siege of Corfu, on which occasion they distinguished themselves with courage and set a good example in order to repair the fortifications and defend the Piazza from enemy invasion.)
Greek authors consider this family to be Epirote origin, as the Greek province of Epirus is just a short distance from the island of Corfu.
