The ancestral origin of Romulus and Remus in the Levant is clearly illustrated in the continuity of the Royal Baptism or Masha Myth employed by the Assyrian, Hittite, and pre-Davidic kings of Turkey, Egypt, and the Levant. This myth was employed during clear dynastic shifts which required the adoption of a foreign king or ruler over a local previously sovereign people. Examples of this is the Dynastic Shift of Assyria with Sargon (Sharruken) of Akkadia (Sharek , Salitis) (b. before -2350), in Egypt with Muksus (Mopsus) ? (Namuseti) (b. about -1391 bur. -1271). The ritual can be traced back to the earliest literary records of Mesopotamia to an origin in Vedic India and usually contains secondary elements which confirm continuity: mentions of Ficus (Figs), and/or Grain (Barley), or the Cadeccus (staff of Asherah).
