This name which differs greatly from the naming constructions of the previous dynasties could be a phonetic construction Khasek=Kashki Hem=Ham wy=Veiy
Little is known of Khasekhemwy, other than that he led several significant military campaigns and built several monuments, still extant, mentioning war against the Northerners.
Kahl mentions three current or older theories concerning the relationship between these two kings:
- Sekhemib and Seth-Peribsen were either names borne simultaneously by a single ruler
- Horus Sekhemib was merely the older name of Seth Peribsen
- Horus Sekhemib buried Seth-Peribsen and was thus his successor
- Seth-Peribsen abdicated naming Horus Sekhemib his successor
Due to lack of clear evidence there is at present no compelling argument favouring one alternative over the others.
There is some indication that perhaps given the longevity of the sons of Noah, the entire 1st dynasty represents a prediluvian Dynasty of Ham and that he returned to the land that he governed initially to re-establish a new 3rd dynasty.
