There are perhaps diverse families Monteiro in Portugal and Brazil with no community. The first registered family Monteiro, from which possibly descends or derives a good share of the others, is the one descended from Ruy Monteiro, b. ~ 1110 in Penaguião, Alto Douro, Portugal.
