The Amarna Letters record the details of the Qiltu conflict (an Egyptian controlled city located between Gimtu and Urusalim) that occurred during the Amarna Period resulting in a widescale social upheaval that threatened the entire levant in the later Amarna period. The events at Qiltu, which followed almost immediately the assassination of the Hittite King Labayu and seems to have taken about one year to play out as the sons of the Hittite King Labayu vied for power and revenge in the wake of the recently assassinated father. Amarna Letter EA 287 29-31 records how the Hurrian ruler of Urusalim (Jerusalem) as Abdi-Xeba and Ir-Xeba (a-ki-tesub and a-ki-iz-zi) accuses Milk-Ilu of Gezer and the sons of Labayu as being in conspiring with the Apiru. Following the conflict it appears the regency of Urusalem passed to Surata, the ruler of Akka and it is unknown what became of the city of Qiltu or its regents. It is believed from the wording and sequence of events in the letters that Suwardata has been tasked by Pharaoh with first strike assassination of Labayu.

Say to the king, my lord, my Sun, my god: Message of Šuwardata, your servant, the servant of the king and the dirt at your feet, the ground you tread on. I prostrate myself at the feet of the king, my lord, the Sun from the sky (i.e. 'heaven:' ša-me), 7 times and 7 times, both on the stomach and on the back. Whatever the king (i.e. pharaoh), my lord, orders, I shall prepare.

May the king, my lord, be informed that the 'Apiru that rose up: na-aš-ša-a against the lands, the god of the king, my lord, gave to me–and I smote him. And may the king, my lord, be informed that all my brothers have abandoned me. Only Abdi-Heba and I have been at war with (that) 'Apiru. Surata, the ruler of Akka, and Endaruta, the ruler of Akšapa, (these) two also have come to my aid: na-az-a-qú (have been summoned to help) with 50–chariots, and now they are on my side in the war. So may it seem right in the sight of the king, my lord, and may he send Yanhamu so that we may all wage war and you restore the land of the king, my lord, to its borders: up-sí-hi.

It is suspected that sometime after this even certain groups of people established trade with the Americas. This is under discussion and no conclusion has been reached but there is evidence to suggest that within 100 years of this event Tobacco and Coca were among the goods traded. The evidence includes Egyptian Royal mummies found with Tobacco
